Year 3 - Belfast

Summer 2

 

 This half term we have started looking at features of a discussion text. Our new talk for writing map is 'Should pupils wear school uniform?'.

 

We will be carrying on with our Maths no Problem scheme. It has proven to be really effective in every year group. The children will be developing their learning of fractions this half term. It will also be really helpful for children to be logging onto Times Table Rockstars on a weekly basis. 

 

Children are still continuing to use iLearn2 in Computing. This half term we are looking at Document Creation where children practice their Microsoft Word skills. 

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

The children are making good progress in Music. They have been learning how to play a violin since September.

This half-term we are looking at dance for indoor PE. Our theme is 'Witches and Wizards'. Children started off by getting into character, travelling in a space and metamorphosing into small creatures. 

Summer 1

 

This half term we have started looking at features of an explanation text. Our new talk for writing map is 'Why are cats excellent hunters?'. Have a look at our T4W map and first lesson.

After having a successful term learning all about tag rugby, year 3 are now working with Coach Aaron to learn all about athletics!  Have a look at our amazing first lesson. 

 

Our artist of the term is Claude Monet. The children will research facts about Claude Monet and create a fact file. Pictures to follow soon!

This term in computing, children are looking at digital art. We will be using the iLearn2 website to access activities in class. Take a look at our successful first lesson.

The children are continuing to learn how to play a violin every Tuesdays by a music expert. Keep an eye out for new videos to see their progress.

This half term we have started looking at instruction writing.  Our new talk for writing map is 'How to pot up a plant'. This term is very exciting as we will be starting our Water topic with the water cycle. Our enquiry question for Geography is 'Will the world ever run out of water?'.  The children have all been given a knowledge organiser with key topics which we will be covering. This can also be found below.

This half term we will be taking a deeper look into plants. The children have enjoyed a research task in science this week. They had the opportunity to use the iPads to research what plants need to grow and learnt lots of facts.

This half term the children are looking at 'Living in the Wider World'. We have explored the four main job sectors, common myths and gender stereotypes related to work.

We are looking at a new talk for writing text. (The P-P-P Perfect P-P-P Pen) Children are enjoying learning about persuasive writing and more specifically the '4 tions' and how they play a significant role in persuading a reader. (Attention, emotion, information and action)

 

We will be carrying on with our Maths no Problem scheme. It has proven to be really effective in every year group. The children will be studying length and mass over the next few weeks. It will also be really helpful for children to be logging onto Times Table Rockstars on a weekly basis. ECS celebrated Number Day on Tuesday 1st February 2022. Here are some pictures from our fun maths workshop. 

 

This term we will be studying the Iron Age Children will be learning new vocabulary as well as collecting and recording evidence. What did Iron Age people eat? What was life like in a Celtic tribe? The tools that were used during The Iron Age and why specifically iron? Children have already learned about druids (upper class people of the Celtic era) and created mind maps around this. Pictures to follow soon. 

Next half term the children will be learning all about the water. We have an enquiry question for Geography - Will the world ever run out of water? Here is the knowledge organiser to support the children's learning. 

 

Our big question for this year: What is the significance of light in religion? Children will be learning the significance of light across different religions such as Hinduism, Christianity and Judaism. The children have already learn about Rosh Hashanah. Keep a look out for work below.

 

During this term we will be taking a deeper look into animals including humans. However, the children have enjoyed a research task in science this week. They had the opportunity to use the iPads to research the 5 food groups and learnt lots of facts.

 

Our artist of the term is Pablo Picasso. The children started off by researching facts about Pablo Picasso. They were fascinated that his name has 23 words. Holly has taken a lot of interest in art and she even created a canvas at home on our artist. Check it out! 

 

This half term the children are looking at 'Living in the Wider World'. They have been looking at ways in which people access the internet and how to stay safe online. They also created poster on how to stay safe online. 

 

The children are very lucky to learn how to play the violin this year. They have been practising and learning all the strings this half term. They also have singing assembly in class every week.

Year 3 staff and pupils have been fortunate to be chosen to work with creative writing artists. Farzana and Lasana will be working closely with the children throughout the year to produce short pieces of writing which will be later published in the future. Both Farzana and Lasana will also be working with children to boost children’s confidence with public speaking activities. We believe the children will benefit from this a lot.
